Vyazniki history starts from the ancient city-fortress Yaropolch-Zalessky, founded by Prince Yaropolk Vladimirovich in 1135-1138. The city was burnt in 1239 by the troops of Batu and Subedey. The new city was built already on the territory of the modern town of Vyazniki in 1657 by decree of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in connection with the troubles of 1648.

Вязники ведут историю от древнего города-крепости Ярополч-Залесский, основанного князем Ярополком Владимировичем в 1135—1138 гг. Город был сожжен в 1239 году войсками Батыя и Субедея. Новый город был построен уже на территории современного города в 1657 г. по указу царя царя Алексея Михайловича в связи со смутой 1648 года.
