Summary

After graduation from VMI he was a teacher and co-principal of the Danville (VA) Military Academy. He was appointed Col. of the 38th Virginia 1 July 1861. He was killed in "Picket's Charge" at Gettysburg, PA, on 3 July 1863. Buried anonymously on the battlefield, and reinterred (probably in 1872) in the "Gettysburg Dead" section of Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.
